Lahore, June 14, 2025: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has directed the early finalization of the Electric Vehicles (EV) Policy 2025 in consultation with all relevant stakeholders, urging that the policy be immediately presented before the federal cabinet for approval.

Chairing a high-level meeting on Saturday to review the draft policy framework for promoting electric vehicles in Pakistan, the Prime Minister called for swift, priority-based actions to accelerate the adoption of electric motorcycles, scooters, rickshaws, cars, and buses nationwide.

He emphasized the critical need for developing robust EV infrastructure, including widespread charging stations and battery-swapping facilities, to support the country’s transition toward cleaner and more sustainable transportation.

Prime Minister Shehbaz also instructed the concerned ministries to ensure that local industries are actively facilitated in enhancing the domestic manufacturing capacity of electric two- and three-wheelers.

“The shift toward electric mobility is no longer optional — it is essential for environmental sustainability, energy security, and economic growth,” he stated.

The meeting was attended by Federal Ministers Rana Tanveer Hussain, Ahmad Khan Cheema, Muhammad Aurangzeb, Special Assistant to PM Haroon Akhtar, and other senior officials.

The EV Policy 2025 aims to reduce Pakistan’s dependence on fossil fuels, cut carbon emissions, and stimulate innovation and investment in the country’s automotive sector.
