California, January 1, 2025: Pakistani-American politician Mohammad Arif, a former Congress candidate of the Peace and Freedom Party, has expressed optimism that Pakistan’s former Prime Minister Imran Khan will soon be released from jail and join U.S. President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration ceremony later this month.

In a New Year’s statement, Arif voiced hope for 2025, emphasizing the possibility of positive political change in Pakistan. “The new year will bring new hopes. I am confident that Imran Khan will be freed in the coming weeks and will attend Donald Trump’s oath-taking ceremony,” he said.

Arif also criticized the Pakistani government for what he described as unprecedented levels of fascism and political victimization. “The current administration in Pakistan has set new records of suppressing dissent and targeting opposition leaders across the country,” he added.

The politician expressed belief that President-elect Donald Trump, known for his outspoken views on global issues, would urge the Pakistani government to release Imran Khan. “Trump has shown a willingness to speak out on issues of justice and will likely pressure Pakistan to ensure Khan’s freedom,” Arif noted.

Imran Khan, who served as Pakistan’s Prime Minister from 2018 to 2022, has been imprisoned since 2023 on charges his supporters claim are politically motivated. His arrest has sparked widespread protests and drawn criticism from human rights organizations for undermining democratic norms in the country.

The prospect of Khan attending Trump’s inauguration could have broader implications for U.S.-Pakistan relations, which have been strained in recent years over issues including counterterrorism, human rights, and democratic governance. Observers speculate that such a development might signal a shift in diplomatic dynamics between the two nations.

As the inauguration date approaches, both Trump’s team and international stakeholders are likely to monitor the situation closely, with implications for Pakistan’s domestic politics and its global standing.
