Karachi, February 1, 2025 – Two bogies of the Karachi-Lahore-bound Pak Business Express derailed at Karachi Cantt Station on Saturday while the train was being shifted to platform number seven.

According to a Pakistan Railways spokesperson, the derailment did not affect the main railway line, and no casualties or injuries were reported. Rescue teams and a relief crane were immediately dispatched to the site to clear the affected bogies and restore operations.

“The derailment occurred during the shifting process and had no impact on the main track,” the spokesperson confirmed. “Our team is actively working to restore the affected section, and normal operations are expected to resume shortly.”

Despite the incident, railway authorities assured that the Pak Business Express will depart on schedule.

Railway officials have initiated an inquiry to determine the cause of the derailment. Additionally, safety protocols are being reassessed to prevent similar incidents in the future.

The derailment comes just a day after the Shalimar Express—traveling from Lahore to Karachi—met with an accident near Shahdara, causing three of its coaches to derail.

Railway authorities confirmed that no injuries were reported; however, train operations between Lahore and Faisalabad were temporarily suspended following the incident.

Officials attributed the Shalimar Express derailment to the breaking of a 200-year-old wooden track, which caused the train to tip over. The recent incidents have raised concerns over railway infrastructure and maintenance, prompting renewed calls for urgent safety upgrades.
