Rawalpindi, February 9, 2025: Seven terrorists were killed in two separate intelligence-based operations conducted by Pakistan’s security forces in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the military’s media wing, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), announced on Sunday.
In the first operation, three terrorists, including a key militant identified as Kharji Rehmat, were killed, while two others were injured in the Maddi area of Dera Ismail Khan district. The operation was carried out on the night of February 8 and 9 after security forces received credible intelligence about the presence of militants in the area.
In the second operation, four terrorists were eliminated, and three others sustained injuries in a raid in the Mir Ali area of North Waziristan district. Security forces are conducting sanitization operations to clear the area of any remaining threats, with ISPR reaffirming the military’s commitment to eradicating terrorism from the country.
Pakistan has been facing a resurgence of militant violence in its western border regions, particularly since the Taliban’s return to power in Afghanistan in 2021. The year 2023 recorded the highest number of casualties in six years, with over 1,500 civilians, security personnel, and militants killed, according to the Islamabad-based Center for Research and Security Studies (CRSS).
Last month, security forces neutralized five terrorists linked to the banned Fitna Al Khawarij group in Sambaza, Zhob district, as they attempted to infiltrate from Afghanistan. The growing cross-border militant activity has been a key point of contention between Pakistan and Afghanistan. Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir has previously stated that Pakistan’s primary security challenge remains the presence of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) militants in Afghanistan, who continue to launch cross-border attacks.
The ISPR reiterated Pakistan’s firm resolve to eliminate terrorism and safeguard national security, emphasizing that security forces remain fully committed to ensuring stability in the region.
