Islamabad, February 27, 2025: Pakistan today marks the sixth anniversary of Operation Swift Retort, paying tribute to the Pakistan Air Force’s (PAF) decisive response to India’s airspace violation on February 27, 2019. The operation stands as a defining moment in Pakistan’s military history, reaffirming its commitment to national defense and regional stability.

The conflict erupted on February 26, 2019, when Indian Air Force (IAF) jets violated Pakistani airspace, claiming to target militant camps. In a swift and calculated counterstrike, PAF launched precision airstrikes across the Line of Control (LoC) the next day, effectively neutralizing designated targets.

During the aerial battle, PAF shot down two Indian fighter jets, leading to the capture of Indian Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman, whose MiG-21 crashed inside Azad Kashmir. Adding to India’s misfortune, its own air defense mistakenly downed an Indian Mi-17 helicopter, killing six personnel—a stark display of operational failures.

Operation Swift Retort shattered India’s narrative of air superiority, highlighting Pakistan’s advanced air combat capabilities and strategic preparedness. The response sent a strong message to adversaries—Pakistan will defend its airspace and sovereignty at all costs.

As the nation observes this historic anniversary, Pakistan honors the PAF and its armed forces for their unwavering vigilance, professionalism, and commitment to national security. February 27, 2019, remains a powerful reminder that any act of aggression will be met with a swift, decisive, and resolute response
