Islamabad, March 3, 2025: A senior Afghan military commander was among 14 terrorists eliminated in a recent counterterrorism operation by Pakistani security forces, according to security sources.
The operation, conducted on February 28 in the Ghulam Khan Kalay area, resulted in the killing of Mujeeb-ur-Rehman, also known as Mansoor, the son of Mirza Khan, an Afghan national who previously served as a commander at Afghanistan’s National Military Academy.
Security officials stated that Afghanistan has become a safe haven for terrorists, with militant groups using its territory to orchestrate attacks in Pakistan.
Mujeeb-ur-Rehman hailed from Dandargaon, Chak District, Maidan Wardak province and had served as a commander of the third battalion at Afghanistan’s National Military Academy.
This is the second such incident in recent weeks. On January 30, 2025, Pakistani forces eliminated Badaruddin, also known as Yusuf, the son of the Afghan Deputy Governor of Badghis, Mullah Ghulam Mohammad, in an operation in Kalachi, Dera Ismail Khan. He was killed along with three other terrorists.
During a weekly briefing on Friday, Pakistan’s Foreign Office spokesperson, Shafqat Ali Khan, voiced serious concerns over advanced US military equipment left behind in Afghanistan, stating that it is now being used by terrorist groups.
“Terrorists are now using advanced US weapons abandoned in Afghanistan, with some even being smuggled into Pakistan,” Khan said.
He emphasized Pakistan’s repeated calls to the international community and Afghan authorities to address the issue and prevent the use of Afghan territory for terrorism.
Pakistan’s concerns have been substantiated by a report submitted to the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) by the Analytical Support and Sanctions Monitoring Team. The report highlights a logistical, operational, and financial nexus between Kabul and Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
Pakistan has repeatedly stressed the need for continued dialogue on Afghanistan’s role in regional stability and counterterrorism efforts, urging cooperation to eliminate terrorist sanctuaries across the border.
