Washington, March 30, 2025: US President Donald Trump has warned Iran of potential bombings and secondary tariffs if Tehran fails to reach an agreement with Washington on its nuclear program.
In a telephone interview with NBC News, Trump confirmed that US and Iranian officials were in talks, though he declined to provide details. “If they don’t make a deal, there will be bombing,” he stated. He also hinted at the possibility of reimposing secondary tariffs, similar to the economic pressure strategy used during his previous administration.
During his 2017-2021 term, Trump withdrew the US from the 2015 Iran nuclear deal, which had imposed strict limits on Tehran’s uranium enrichment in exchange for sanctions relief. Following the US exit, Iran significantly expanded its nuclear program, surpassing the agreed enrichment limits.
So far, Tehran has dismissed Trump’s warnings, resisting pressure to return to negotiations under US terms. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi confirmed that Iran responded to a letter from Trump via Oman, but did not indicate any willingness to comply with US demands.
Western nations accuse Iran of pursuing nuclear weapons capability by enriching uranium beyond civilian energy requirements. However, Tehran maintains that its nuclear program is strictly for peaceful purposes.
With tensions escalating, the prospect of renewed conflict looms, as Washington and Tehran remain at an impasse over the future of Iran’s nuclear ambitions.
