Quetta, January 5, 2025 – The Quetta Gladiators, a prominent franchise in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), have announced the release of their former captain Sarfaraz Ahmed, marking the end of a nine-year association with the team. This decision means Sarfaraz will enter the PSL 10 draft for the first time in his career.
The Gladiators have retained eight players for the upcoming season, but the veteran wicketkeeper-batsman is notably absent from the list. The retained players include Abrar Ahmed, Mohammad Amir (mentor), and Rilee Rossouw for Diamond Category, Akeal Hosein, Saud Shakeel (brand ambassador), and Mohammad Wasim Jr for Gold Category while Khwaja Mohammad Nafees and Usman Tariq have been retained for the Silver Category.
Sarfaraz Ahmed, who led the team for several seasons, was quietly stripped of the captaincy during the previous PSL edition, with South Africa’s Rilee Rossouw taking over leadership duties. His release has sparked questions among fans about the franchise’s decision.
The PSL 10 draft is scheduled for January 11, with 510 players from 19 countries registered. The tournament will run from April 8 to May 19, 2025.
