Islamabad, March 15, 2025: The government has decided to maintain current petroleum prices while reducing electricity tariffs to provide financial relief to the public, according to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced that the government would pass on the benefits of global oil price fluctuations by lowering electricity costs instead of fuel prices.

“This is one of several steps we are taking to achieve a meaningful reduction in electricity tariffs,” the PM stated. He assured that a comprehensive relief package is in the works, with final details being ironed out.

“The financial space created by changes in global oil prices and other measures will be utilized to offer significant relief on electricity costs,” he explained.

Reiterating his government’s commitment, PM Shehbaz emphasized that since taking office, his administration has prioritized economic relief for the public.

“In the coming weeks, we will continue to take steps to ease the burden further by reducing electricity prices,” he assured.

The premier also highlighted that lower electricity tariffs would not only help consumers but also have a broader impact on reducing inflation.

“This relief will not only lower electricity prices but will also contribute to a further reduction in overall inflation,” he concluded.

The government is expected to announce further details of the relief package in the coming days.
