India defeats Pakistan 2-1 in Asian Hockey Champions Trophy

Beijing, September 14, 2024-In a thrilling encounter at the Asian Hockey Champions Trophy, India edged out Pakistan 2-1. Harmanpreet Singh scored both goals for India, while Ahmad Nadeem found the net for Pakistan.

The match, highly anticipated given the rivalry between the two teams, saw India maintain its unbeaten streak with five consecutive victories. Pakistan, despite the defeat, had already secured a place in the semi-finals.

India leads the points table with 15 points from five wins, while Pakistan is second with eight points, having won two matches, drawn two, and lost one. Both teams have qualified for the semi-finals.

The game, which kicked off at 12:45 PM Pakistan Standard Time, concluded the round-robin stage of the tournament. The semi-final matchups will be finalized with the announcement of the remaining two teams.

The semi-finals are scheduled for September 17. Pakistan’s opponent will be confirmed soon. India has claimed the Asian Hockey Champions Trophy four times, while Pakistan has won it three times. In the world hockey rankings, India is positioned 5th, with Pakistan at 16th.
