Karachi, April 7, 2025: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has firmly denied rumours that its chairman, Mohsin Naqvi, is stepping down following his recent appointment as President of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC).

Speculation about Naqvi’s resignation circulated over the weekend, largely fueled by assumptions that his new role at the ACC could conflict with his responsibilities at the PCB. However, a PCB spokesperson dismissed the reports on Monday, calling them “baseless”.

“There is no truth to the reports about Mr. Naqvi’s resignation,” the official stated. “He continues to perform his duties as PCB Chairman and remains fully committed to the development of Pakistan cricket.”

The official also pointed out that holding dual positions within the PCB and ACC is neither unprecedented nor unmanageable, emphasizing that both roles can be handled effectively with proper time management.

“It is a matter of pride for Pakistan that its representative is leading the ACC. Mr. Naqvi has no intention of stepping down from his position at the PCB,” the spokesperson added.

Naqvi recently made history by becoming the first Pakistani since 2008 to be elected unopposed as President of the ACC, succeeding Shammi Silva of Sri Lanka Cricket. He officially assumed the position on April 3, 2025.

In a statement issued last week, the ACC hailed Naqvi’s appointment as a significant moment for Asian cricket:

“Mr. Mohsin Naqvi has assumed charge as the new President of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC). Naqvi, who has served as the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman since February 2024, ushers in a new chapter of leadership for Asian cricket.”
