Peshawar, April 13, 2025: Inspector-General of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police Zulfiqar Hameed announced on Sunday that investigators have successfully traced the network responsible for recent attacks on Darul Uloom Haqqania in Akora Khattak and the Bannu Cantonment.

Speaking to media, IG Hameed confirmed that authorities had obtained concrete evidence in both cases. However, he refrained from disclosing further details about the network, citing operational security concerns. “Revealing identities at this stage could alert the perpetrators and lead them to go underground,” he said.

He added that several individuals have already been taken into custody for questioning in connection with both incidents, and further details will be made public upon the completion of investigations.

Highlighting the police’s recent efforts, the IG noted a decline in terrorist activity over the past two weeks due to proactive policing measures. These include house-to-house searches and resident verification drives, with illegal occupants being deported via Torkham.

The two attacks sent shockwaves across the province. A suicide bombing at Darul Uloom Haqqania claimed the lives of JUI-S leader Maulana Hamid ul-Haq and five others. In a separate incident, 16 terrorists launched an assault on Bannu Cantonment. The security forces successfully repelled the attack, killing all 16 assailants, though six personnel were martyred during the operation.

These developments come amid heightened security efforts to curb militancy in the region, which has seen a resurgence in recent months. The tracing of the network marks a significant breakthrough for law enforcement agencies working to dismantle terror infrastructure within the province.
