Washington, September 16, 2024- Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States, Rizwan Saeed Sheikh, presided over a one-day conference of Pakistan’s Consul Generals, aimed at bolstering communication with the Pakistani diaspora, enhancing consular services, and strengthening economic ties with the United States.

The six-hour meeting brought together Consul Generals from Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, and New York, as well as commercial and trade officers. Each Consul General presented comprehensive reports on the range of services provided to the Pakistani community, such as visas, passports, and other essential consular functions. Challenges faced by applicants were also discussed, with plans to escalate certain issues to federal and provincial authorities for resolution.

Ambassador Sheikh stressed the vital role of the Pakistani diaspora, calling them the “country’s greatest asset” and a key factor in sustaining Pakistan-U.S. relations. He urged the Consul Generals and trade officers to explore untapped trade opportunities at the state level, noting the importance of expanding economic collaboration.

Sheikh also highlighted recent government efforts to simplify visa processes, particularly for business and tourism, emphasizing the need for greater awareness around these initiatives. Trade officers detailed ongoing strategies to promote bilateral trade, including the introduction of Pakistani products to the U.S. market and fostering connections between Pakistani and American business communities.

A central focus of the conference was the need to attract investment in key sectors, particularly self-sustaining enterprises that could generate employment opportunities for young Pakistanis.

The conference concluded with a shared commitment to strengthening engagement with the Pakistani community, improving the efficiency of consular services, and advancing economic ties, particularly through business and investment promotion.
