Rawalpindi, April 17, 2025: Police on Thursday detained several Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders, including National Assembly Opposition Leader Omar Ayub, and three sisters of PTI founder Imran Khan, near Adiala Jail.

The PTI delegation had gathered outside the jail in an attempt to meet Imran Khan when police intervened and barred them from proceeding. Among those stopped at the Dahgal checkpoint were Aleema Khan and her sisters Uzma Khan and Noreen Khan, who staged a protest sit-in, insisting they would not leave without seeing their brother.

Police later entered an under-construction plaza where the sisters had taken shelter and arrested seven individuals, including all three women.

Other senior PTI leaders, including Zartaj Gul, Hamid Raza, and Niazullah Niazi, were also stopped at the checkpoint and denied access. Speaking to media, Zartaj Gul said the group had obtained court orders and cited jail manual provisions that allowed for such meetings, but police had sealed off Adiala Road.

Hamid Raza described the group’s actions as a peaceful protest, saying they were left with no other option. Omar Ayub, meanwhile, sharply criticized Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, calling him “the biggest liar” and questioning the government’s approach to fuel levies and provincial aid, particularly for Balochistan.

Police later confirmed that those detained were transported to an undisclosed location.
