Bannu, April 22, 2025: A major terrorist attack was thwarted late Tuesday night when police in Bannu, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, bravely repelled an assault on the Dharay Pul checkpoint.

According to the Central Police Office in Peshawar, 18 to 19 armed terrorists arrived on eight motorcycles and attempted to storm the checkpoint. Three of them advanced to disable surveillance cameras before launching a broader attack. As police personnel took defensive positions, the terrorists opened fire from multiple directions.

Despite the intensity of the attack, the police responded swiftly and effectively, forcing the militants to retreat. The attackers fled the scene without inflicting any casualties, thanks to the vigilance and preparedness of the checkpoint staff.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi praised the operation as a model of courage and professionalism, calling the police response a critical success in the nation’s ongoing battle against terrorism.

“The officers who confronted and drove back these extremist elements are the pride of our nation,” said Naqvi in a strongly worded statement. “Their fearless and timely response prevented a potentially tragic incident. They are true national heroes.”

Naqvi commended the entire Bannu police team for what he described as an “exemplary performance under fire.” He emphasized the government’s full backing of law enforcement agencies, stating:

“We stand firmly behind our police and security forces. Their commitment, bravery, and sacrifices will always be honored. I congratulate the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police for their extraordinary service to the nation.”

Inspector General of Police Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Zulfiqar Hameed, also hailed the operation, noting that the swift response underscored the force’s readiness to counter any threat. The Central Police Office called the incident a major success and reaffirmed the resolve to confront all anti-peace elements without compromise.

As Pakistan continues to grapple with sporadic terror threats, the foiled Bannu attack highlights the vigilance and resolve of frontline police officers risking their lives to maintain national security.
