Islamabad, May 10, 2025: Amid escalating hostilities between India and Pakistan, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio held a telephone conversation with Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir, the U.S. Department of State confirmed on Saturday.

According to a statement cited by Reuters, the call took place as tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbours deepened, following intensified cross-border attacks and retaliatory strikes.

“Secretary of State Marco Rubio spoke with Pakistani Army Chief Asim Munir earlier today,” said State Department Spokesperson Tammy Bruce. “He continued to urge both parties to find ways to de-escalate and offered U.S. assistance in starting constructive talks in order to avoid future conflicts.”

The spokesperson emphasized Washington’s concern over the potential for further escalation and reiterated the United States’ support for dialogue and diplomacy as the only viable path forward.

The statement was also shared by the U.S. Embassy in Islamabad across its official platforms, underscoring the urgency of international efforts to prevent the crisis from spiraling into a wider regional conflict.
