Karachi, May 26, 2025: Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has blamed the banned nationalist group Jeay Sindh Muttahida Mahaz (JSMM) for orchestrating the recent violent protests in Moro, claiming that the unrest involved non-local elements and was incited by external actors.
Speaking at a press conference on Monday, Memon alleged that masked demonstrators had gathered at the Moro Bypass Road, where they instigated violence by opening fire and hurling stones at law enforcement personnel. At least two police officers were injured in the clashes, he said.
Memon emphasized that police did not resort to tear gas and acted with restraint despite the provocation.
The minister accused the protesters of setting fire to the residence of the interior minister as well as an oil tanker, and said the situation was escalated by individuals who were not residents of the area.
The unrest reportedly left nine people injured and two dead, allegedly due to gunfire from the protesters themselves.
During the briefing, Memon also shared video footage which he claimed shows evidence of JSMM’s involvement, warning that the group’s exiled leader, Shafi Burfat, continues to engage in anti-state activities from abroad.
He further cautioned the public against false narratives spreading on social media, which he said were part of a coordinated propaganda campaign to destabilize the region.
Authorities are said to be investigating the matter further, with plans for legal action against those involved in the violence.
