Islamabad, June 28, 2025: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday met with former Pakistan women’s cricket team captain Sana Mir and congratulated her on becoming the first Pakistani woman to be inducted into the International Cricket Council (ICC) Hall of Fame, according to a statement from the PM’s Office.

Mir’s induction was announced earlier this month, placing her alongside international cricket legends including India’s MS Dhoni, England’s Sarah Taylor, South Africa’s Hashim Amla and Graeme Smith, Australia’s Matthew Hayden, and New Zealand’s Daniel Vettori.

Commending her contributions, Prime Minister Sharif said that under Mir’s leadership, the Pakistan women’s team achieved historic milestones and brought global recognition to the country.

“The government is committed to promoting talent on the basis of merit across all sports,” he said. “Ensuring equal opportunities and facilities for both men and women in every sporting field, including cricket, is a key priority.”

He further expressed hope that Mir would continue to play a pivotal role in nurturing young cricket talent by sharing her knowledge and experience.

In response, Sana Mir thanked the prime minister and reaffirmed her dedication to representing Pakistan internationally through the World Cricket Association and the ICC. She also shared recommendations for the further development of women’s cricket in the country.

A pioneer of women’s cricket in Pakistan, Mir represented the national team from 2005 to 2019. She is the eighth Pakistani overall and just the 15th woman worldwide to be inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame.

Mir holds the record for the most wickets by a Pakistani woman in ODIs (151) and was the first Asian woman to play 100 T20 internationals. In 2018, she made history as the first Pakistani woman to top the ICC ODI bowling rankings.
