Islamabad, July 19, 2025: A high-level meeting was held at the Capital Development Authority (CDA) headquarters, chaired by Chairman CDA and Chief Commissioner Islamabad Muhammad Ali Randhawa, to review progress on the city’s uplift and beautification plan.

The meeting was attended by CDA Board Members, including Member Administration and Estate Talat Mehmood, Member Engineering Syed Nafasat Raza, Member Environment Esfandyar Baloch, Member Planning Dr. Khalid Hafiz, Member Finance Tahir Naeem, and senior officials from Works, Environment, and Building Control Directorates.

The session focused on the renovation and beautification of Islamabad’s key infrastructure, including interchanges, pedestrian bridges, main highways, and the installation of aesthetic lighting and modern SMD screens across the city.

One of the key agenda items was the Rawal Chowk Interchange renovation, where multiple design proposals were presented. Chairman Randhawa directed that the final design must reflect cultural elements from all provinces and federating units, turning the interchange into a symbol of national harmony. He also called for the installation of modern lighting and digital displays at the site to enhance its visual appeal.

Emphasizing pedestrian safety, the Chairman instructed the overhaul of existing pedestrian bridges and the construction of new bridges on Park Road, along with proper lighting and SMD screens. The MPO Wing briefed the meeting on ongoing work related to lane marking, kerb stone repairs, and patchwork on major highways.

He also underscored the importance of improving Islamabad’s traffic infrastructure, noting that roads such as Islamabad Expressway, Jinnah Avenue, Srinagar Highway, Margalla Road, Club Road, Park Road, and Faisal Avenue are not only being expanded but also upgraded with lane markings, zebra crossings, footpath improvements, median beautification, and green belts.

To support these projects, the Chairman directed Member Finance to ensure the availability of necessary funds.

In a push for road safety, Chairman Randhawa also called for the installation of pelican crossings and modern signaling systems at key pedestrian points to help prevent accidents.

The meeting was informed that the overall beautification plan includes tree plantations, horticulture and landscaping along major highways, and the installation of modern lighting systems. He further directed that urban forests and roundabout beautification projects be prioritized to help reduce pollution and improve the city’s environment.

Regarding public spaces, the Chairman emphasized the upgrade of all major and neighborhood parks, with the addition of modern lighting, jogging tracks, recreational facilities, and horticultural enhancements.

Chairman Randhawa concluded the meeting by stressing the need to utilize all available resources to accelerate progress toward making Islamabad an eco-friendly, tourist-friendly city, enriched with natural beauty, world-class recreational infrastructure, and a clean, green environment.
