Multan Test: England Scores 96/1 at Stumps, Chasing 556

Multan, October 8, 2024 -At the end of the second day of the Multan Test, England reached 96 for the loss of one wicket, still needing 460 more runs to overcome Pakistan’s first-innings lead.

In their second innings at the Multan Cricket Stadium, England lost their first wicket with only 4 runs on the board. Captain Ollie Pope was dismissed for a duck by Naseem Shah thanks to a brilliant catch by Jamal Shah. However, Zak Crawley (64*) and Joe Root (32*) stabilized the innings with a 92-run partnership, and they will resume on day three.

Pakistan Posts 556 in First Innings with Three Centuries

Earlier, Pakistan posted a formidable total of 556 in their first innings, with three of their batsmen scoring centuries. Captain Shan Masood led the charge with 151, Abdullah Shafique added 102, and Salman Ali Agha remained unbeaten on 104.

Pakistan resumed day two at 328/4 and quickly lost Naseem Shah for 33 at 388. The next wicket to fall was Mohammad Rizwan, who departed without scoring, leaving Pakistan at 393/6.

Vice-captain Saud Shakeel completed his half-century, but was eventually dismissed for 82 with the score at 450. Pakistan’s lower order added valuable runs, with Shaheen Afridi contributing 26 before being bowled. The innings ended at 556 when Abrar Ahmed was dismissed for 3. For England, Jack Leach claimed 3 wickets, while Gus Atkinson and Brydon Carse took 2 each. Joe Root, Shoaib Bashir, and Chris Woakes picked up a wicket apiece.
