Rawalpindi, August 13, 2025: Azerbaijan’s First Deputy Minister of Defence and Chief of the General Staff, Colonel General Karim Valiyev, has awarded the prestigious Patriotic War Medal to Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir on behalf of President Ilham Aliyev, in recognition of his role in strengthening bilateral military cooperation, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Wednesday.

The medal was presented during Valiyev’s visit to the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi, where he held talks with the COAS on matters of mutual interest, including the global and regional security environment.

Field Marshal Munir reaffirmed Pakistan’s fraternal ties with Azerbaijan and expressed Pakistan’s commitment to further enhancing defence collaboration. He also congratulated the visiting commander on the successful conclusion of the peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

Valiyev lauded the Pakistan Armed Forces for their professionalism and success in Marka-e-Haq — the conflict period from the April 22 Pahalgam attack to the May 10 conclusion of Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos. The Azerbaijani delegation extended best wishes for Pakistan’s upcoming Independence Day and victory celebrations.

The COAS thanked Azerbaijan’s leadership and people for their support during Marka-e-Haq and for sending a contingent to join Pakistan’s Independence Day parade. Both sides reiterated their commitment to advancing defence cooperation and working jointly for regional peace and stability.
