Rawalpindi, August 26, 2025: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan has directed his party lawmakers to resign from all parliamentary committees, his sister Aleema Khan said on Tuesday after meeting him at Adiala Jail.
“Imran Khan has instructed party members to tender resignations from all standing committees of the National Assembly,” Aleema told reporters outside the jail.
She added that Khan also issued directives to PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan and Secretary General Salman Akram Raja regarding the upcoming by-elections. “Imran said contesting the by-polls would only serve to legitimize them,” Aleema remarked.
Earlier, Aleema had publicly opposed PTI’s participation in by-elections, claiming the move contradicted Khan’s explicit instructions. Raja, however, reportedly briefed her on the political committee’s stance, where 13 members supported contesting the polls while 9 opposed. The disagreement, according to sources, left Raja disheartened and prompted him to offer his resignation as secretary general.
Later in the day, Raja clarified that Khan had refused to accept his resignation.
Sharing details of her meeting, Aleema said the PTI founder expressed distress over his wife Bushra Bibi’s situation and was briefed about the arrests of Shershah and Shahrez.
According to police, Shershah is accused of attacking officers during the May 9, 2023 riots, with video evidence allegedly placing him at Jinnah House. Shahrez’s name, meanwhile, surfaced in a supplementary investigation report in September 2023.
Aleema quoted her brother as saying that “such punishments and disqualifications have never occurred in Pakistan before.”
Khan also criticized Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, blaming him for the decline of cricket in the country. He further expressed sorrow over flood devastation in Buner and other affected areas.
Aleema assured that Khan’s health remains stable, though he is facing an eye problem. “A petition will be filed in court to allow doctors from Pims Hospital to conduct his treatment,” she confirmed.
She added that this was the first time in four months that all of Khan’s sisters were allowed to meet him. “For three months we tried, but today, by the grace of Allah, we finally met him,” she said.
