Tarouba, August 31, 2025: New Zealand batter Colin Munro etched his name in Caribbean Premier League (CPL) history on Saturday, becoming the first player to score 2,500 runs for a single franchise.
Playing his 79th match for the Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) at the Brian Lara Stadium, Tarouba, Munro crossed the milestone during the 17th league fixture of CPL 2025 against the Guyana Amazon Warriors. Needing 39 runs to reach the landmark, he struck a fluent 52 off 30 balls, featuring six fours and three sixes, while adding a 116-run opening stand with Alex Hales inside 11 overs of TKR’s 164-run chase.
With the innings, Munro lifted his franchise tally to 2,513 runs, reinforcing his status as TKR’s most prolific batter and one of the CPL’s all-time greats. He also surpassed Lendl Simmons to move into fifth place on the CPL’s overall run-scoring charts, now boasting 2,688 runs in 85 matches.
The record highlights Munro’s longevity and consistency for TKR since joining the franchise. He sits ahead of other CPL stalwarts including Evin Lewis (2,446 runs for St Kitts & Nevis Patriots), Andre Fletcher (2,310 for St Lucia Kings), and Johnson Charles (2,231 for St Lucia Kings).
Munro’s 2025 campaign has been nothing short of exceptional. He began with a match-winning 120 against the Patriots on August 17 and has since backed it up with scores of 44, 43, 67, and now 52, underlining his rich vein of form at 38 years of age.
