Islamabad, September 4, 2025: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Thursday postponed by-elections in several constituencies across Punjab, citing heavy rainfall and widespread flooding that have disrupted normal life.

Polling, which was scheduled in five National Assembly and four Punjab Assembly constituencies, will now be held at a later date to ensure public safety and a smooth electoral process, the commission said in a statement.

The affected constituencies include NA-129 Lahore, NA-143 Sahiwal, NA-66 Wazirabad, NA-104 Faisalabad, and NA-96 Faisalabad on the National Assembly side, while PP-98 Faisalabad, PP-203 Sahiwal, PP-73 Sargodha, and PP-87 Mianwali are impacted in the Punjab Assembly.

Officials noted that transportation networks in both urban and rural areas have been severely disrupted, raising concerns about voter access to polling stations and safe deployment of election staff and security personnel.

“The decision was made in the greater interest of the electorate,” the ECP said, assuring that new polling dates will be announced once conditions stabilise.

The commission urged residents of the affected constituencies to stay updated through official channels and reiterated that no voter would lose their right to cast a ballot.
