Lahore, September 6, 2025: A fresh water surge released from India has worsened the flood situation in the Sutlej River, where a high-level flood continues to threaten low-lying areas.
According to the Flood Forecasting Division, the water flow at Head Ganda Singh Wala has reached 353,825 cusecs, while levels are rising at other points as well. At Head Sulemanki, the inflow and outflow were recorded at 132,916 cusecs, while near Burewala’s Jamlera point, the flow surged to 160,000 cusecs.
At Head Islam, the flow was recorded at 103,465 cusecs, and at Mailsi Head Siphon, 93,343 cusecs.
Rising waters in Ravi and Chenab
The Flood Forecasting Division also confirmed a high flood in the Ravi River. At Head Balloki, the water flow increased to 157,000 cusecs, while a decline was noted at Head Sidhnai, where the flow dropped to 101,000 cusecs.
Meanwhile, the Chenab River is facing an alarming situation as well, with the water flow at Chiniot recorded at 448,000 cusecs, categorized as high flood.
Indus river status
On the Indus River, low-level floods have been reported at Guddu, Sukkur, and Kotri barrages. Authorities have directed district administrations to remain on high alert and intensify precautionary measures to tackle potential risks.
Water situation at Sindh barrages
According to the Sindh Information Department:
- Guddu barrage: Upstream inflow 360,976 cusecs, downstream outflow 325,046 cusecs.
- Sukkur barrage: Upstream inflow 329,648 cusecs, downstream outflow 278,398 cusecs.
- Kotri barrage: Upstream inflow 237,922 cusecs, downstream outflow 215,567 cusecs.
- Trimmu barrage: Inflow and outflow 375,593 cusecs.
- Panjnad barrage: Inflow and outflow 206,439 cusecs.
PDMA Sindh mobilizes boats for rescue
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Sindh has dispatched boats to different commissioner offices to strengthen rescue efforts. These include:
- 8 boats (including OBMs) to Commissioner Sukkur.
- 4 boats each to Commissioners Larkana and Shaheed Benazirabad.
- 5 boats to Pakistan Navy (Sukkur).
- 1 OBM to Rescue 1122 Hyderabad.
Water flows at other barrages
According to the Provincial Rain & Flood Emergency Monitoring Cell, updated water flows across major barrages are as follows:
- Panjnad barrage: Inflow and outflow 306,740 cusecs.
- Trimmu barrage: Inflow and outflow 412,992 cusecs.
- Taunsa barrage: Inflow 238,312 cusecs, outflow 224,872 cusecs.
- Guddu barrage: Inflow 360,976 cusecs, outflow 325,046 cusecs.
- Sukkur barrage: Inflow 329,648 cusecs, outflow 278,398 cusecs.
- Kotri barrage: Inflow 237,922 cusecs, outflow 215,567 cusecs.
Authorities have urged residents of flood-prone areas to stay vigilant as water levels continue to rise in Sutlej, Ravi, and Chenab rivers.
