Riyadh/London, September 18, 2025: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif departed for London on Thursday after concluding a high-profile state visit to Saudi Arabia, during which Pakistan and the Kingdom signed a landmark Strategic Mutual Defense Agreement.

The prime minister was seen off at Riyadh Airport by Deputy Governor Prince Muhammad bin Abdulrahman bin Abdulaziz. His visit came at the invitation of Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, who had accorded him a ceremonial welcome on arrival in Riyadh.

The Strategic Mutual Defense Agreement, signed during high-level talks between Shehbaz Sharif and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, marks a new chapter in bilateral defense cooperation. Under the pact, any aggression against either country will be deemed aggression against both, reinforcing joint deterrence and collective security. The agreement reflects the two nations’ commitment to safeguarding regional and global stability.

In a message on X (formerly Twitter), Prime Minister Sharif expressed gratitude for the warm reception he received in Riyadh.
“From the unprecedented escort provided to my aircraft by Royal Saudi Air Force jets to the impressive guard of honor by the Saudi Armed Forces, this welcome reflects the enduring love and respect between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia,” he wrote.

The premier described his discussions with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman as “most cordial,” noting that they covered regional challenges and new avenues for cooperation. He also praised the crown prince’s leadership and vision, pledging Pakistan’s continued support to deepen bilateral ties.
“I greatly value his consistent support and keen interest in expanding Saudi investments, trade, and business relations. It is my earnest prayer that Pakistan-Saudi friendship continues to flourish and reach new heights,” Shehbaz posted.

Saudi Defense Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman also highlighted the significance of the pact in a message on X, written in Urdu:
“KSA and Pakistan. One front against any aggressor. Always and forever,” he declared.
