FBR rules out extension in income tax return filing deadline

Islamabad, September 30, 2025: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has announced that the deadline for filing income tax returns will expire at midnight tonight, clarifying that no extension will be granted.

According to an official statement, taxpayers can conveniently submit their returns through the newly introduced simplified income tax return form. The FBR warned that those who fail to file by the deadline will be treated as late filers and may face penalties under the law.

The tax authority emphasized that all eligible taxpayers must file their returns by 12 a.m. tonight. However, individuals who pay their due taxes now may seek a 15-day extension solely for submission purposes.

The spokesperson dismissed reports of an extension as “misleading and baseless,” stressing that today is the final date. He added that most taxpayers were not affected by floods and had ample time to file their returns, while also rejecting claims of system slowdowns, saying the IRIS platform remains fully functional.
