Bucharest, October 8, 2025: In a significant step toward strengthening bilateral defense ties, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) General Sahir Shamshad Mirza met with Romania’s Minister of National Defense Liviu-Ionuț Moșteanu and Chief of Defense Staff General Gheorghiță Vlad during an official visit to Bucharest on Monday, October 6.

The high-level meetings, held at the Romanian Ministry of National Defense (MApN) headquarters, focused on expanding military cooperation between the two countries and reviewing the regional security situation, including developments in the Black Sea region, the Middle East, and South and East Asia. Minister Moșteanu reaffirmed Romania’s commitment to strengthening regional security and underlined the importance of sustained dialogue between the two nations. “Today’s visit is an opportunity to strengthen bilateral relations in the field of defense and to identify new avenues for collaboration between our armed forces for the benefit of both sides,” he stated.

General Gheorghiță Vlad emphasized the growing cooperation between the Romanian and Pakistani armed forces in joint training, participation in international missions, and technical-military collaboration. “Our partnership continues to evolve through joint programs, training exchanges, and cooperation between military education institutions. We will continue to cultivate this relationship and explore new opportunities to work together,” he said.

During his stay in Romania, General Mirza’s program includes meetings with commanders of various Romanian military branches, officials from the General Directorate for Armament, and representatives from the national defense industry. Pakistan and Romania first formalized their defense cooperation in 2013 through a bilateral agreement establishing a Joint Military Committee, which holds annual meetings to advance collaboration.

The visit marks a renewed phase in Islamabad–Bucharest defense relations, reflecting both countries’ shared commitment to peace, stability, and strategic cooperation across multiple regions.
