Birmingham, October 13, 2025: Former Pakistan Test cricketer Wazir Mohammad, one of the pioneering figures of the country’s early cricketing era and elder brother of the legendary Hanif Mohammad, passed away in Birmingham, United Kingdom, at the age of 95.
Wazir Mohammad was part of Pakistan’s first generation of Test players who helped shape the nation’s cricketing identity soon after independence. A dependable top-order batter, he represented Pakistan in 20 Test matches, amassing 801 runs with remarkable consistency and discipline.
Known for his solid technique and calm temperament at the crease, Wazir played a crucial role in establishing Pakistan’s credibility on the international stage during the 1950s and 1960s, alongside his brothers Hanif, Mushtaq, Sadiq, and Raees Mohammad — collectively remembered as the Mohammad brothers, the first family of Pakistan cricket.
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi expressed deep sorrow over the veteran’s passing, calling him “a pillar of Pakistan’s cricketing foundation.”
“Wazir Mohammad’s services to cricket will always be remembered,” Naqvi said in a statement, adding that his contribution extended beyond runs and records — “he inspired a generation of cricketers who carried Pakistan’s flag with pride.”
