Shehbaz Sharif hails Gaza summit, reiterates call for sovereign Palestinian state; praises Trump’s role

Islamabad, October 14, 2025: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday said a sovereign Palestinian state within the pre-1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital, is essential and remains Pakistan’s enduring policy.

In a post on X while returning from the Gaza Peace Summit in Sharm El-Sheikh, the prime minister said Pakistan would continue its efforts for lasting peace in the Middle East and described the summit as potentially “a historic turning point.” He reiterated that ending what he called the “genocidal campaign” imposed on Gaza was Pakistan’s foremost priority and said Pakistan, together with brotherly nations, had consistently advocated for an immediate ceasefire.

Shehbaz Sharif praised former U.S. President Donald Trump for his role in securing a halt to hostilities, saying: “President Trump promised to make it stop — and he delivered. Pakistan appreciates President Trump’s efforts for peace.” The prime minister said Pakistan had nominated President Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize, describing his contribution as “unique” and saying he had saved millions of lives through his relentless efforts for peace.

Earlier on Monday, after the signing of the Gaza peace accord, Prime Minister Shehbaz was present alongside other world leaders at President Trump’s press conference. Mr. Trump, during the conference, lauded the roles of various leaders — including Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir — in the peace process.

Addressing reporters, Shehbaz Sharif welcomed the agreement and described President Trump as “a tireless advocate of peace” whose leadership he called exemplary and far-sighted. The prime minister said the world needed such leadership and that history would remember Mr. Trump’s role in halting eight conflicts and preventing a potentially catastrophic four-day war between nuclear-armed neighbours.
