Lahore, October 26, 2025: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided not to renew the contract of national women’s team head coach Mohammad Wasim, following a disappointing run of results.
Wasim, appointed in 2024, is expected to be replaced next week, with the PCB finalizing a new head coach, insiders said. The decision, described as a “principled move,” comes after the team’s continued decline in performance despite consistent board support.
According to sources, Pakistan’s women’s side failed to win a single match at the Women’s World Cup 2025, finishing seventh with just three points. They said Wasim had full authority over team selection and support-staff appointments, yet results remained “zero.”
Players reportedly complained that Wasim’s involvement in coaching was limited, with the team’s batting — his own area of expertise — deteriorating sharply. Bowling standards also declined, and fielding errors, including multiple dropped catches, compounded the team’s struggles.
Several members of the setup further described Wasim’s attitude as abrasive and said he failed to build working relationships with the batting and bowling coaches or maintain effective communication with players.
Pakistan’s campaign at the World Cup included defeats against Bangladesh, India, Australia, and South Africa, as well as washed-out fixtures against New Zealand and Sri Lanka. The side’s spirited effort against England also ended in frustration due to rain.
Sources confirmed that the PCB will appoint a new coach before the team’s next international assignment as part of a broader review of women’s cricket operations.
