UN condemns Israeli airstrikes in Gaza's Beit Lahiya

Jerusalem, October 20, 2024- The United Nations peace envoy for the Middle East, Tor Wennesland, has condemned the ongoing civilian casualties following Israeli airstrikes in Beit Lahiya, Gaza, which martyred dozens of the innocent Palestinians.

Wennesland expressed deep concern, stating, “This comes after weeks of intensified military operations, which have resulted in numerous civilian deaths and a severe shortage of humanitarian aid in northern Gaza.” The strikes are part of Israel’s escalated offensive since early October aimed at preventing Hamas militants from regrouping.

Gaza’s health ministry reported that 87 people were either killed or remain missing under the rubble in Beit Lahiya, following one of the deadliest Israeli attacks in recent months. The Israeli military has said it is investigating the incident, while Gaza’s health ministry claims hundreds have died since the campaign’s escalation.
