KP CM says PTI considering ‘last option’ to secure meeting with Imran Khan

Rawalpindi, November 27, 2025: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi on Thursday said the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) was now considering its “last option” to secure a meeting with jailed party founder Imran Khan amid persistent rumours regarding the former premier’s health.

Speaking to reporters at Rawalpindi’s Gorakhpur checkpoint, the KP CM said the party had exhausted “all legal and democratic avenues” after repeated refusals from authorities to allow a meeting in Adiala Jail.

“We want a one-on-one meeting with the PTI founder to inquire about his health,” Afridi said, adding that concerns within the party were increasing with each passing day. He said he had earlier planned to join a sit-in staged outside the prison but was dissuaded by Khan’s sisters.

Khan, imprisoned since August 2023, is facing multiple cases — ranging from corruption to terrorism — following his removal from office through a no-confidence vote in April 2022.

A day earlier, Adiala Jail authorities issued a statement rejecting reports of Khan’s relocation and asserting that the former premier was “fully healthy and receiving complete medical attention.”

IMF report ‘A charge sheet’

The KP chief minister also lashed out at the federal government, terming the recent International Monetary Fund (IMF) report “a charge sheet” against the PML-N–led administration. He alleged that the government was involved in a corruption scandal amounting to Rs5,300 billion, urging journalists to highlight “taxpayers’ money being mishandled”.

Afridi denied agreeing to political talks with the federal government, saying the ruling coalition “does not have a mandate”. He reiterated that any previous interactions were held strictly on the directives of the PTI founder.

Commenting on the recent by-elections, the KP CM claimed that “95% of people did not turn out to vote” following PTI’s boycott. “The people of Punjab expressed solidarity with Imran Khan by staying away from the polls,” he said.

A video circulating on social media also showed Afridi questioning a station house officer at the Gorakhpur checkpoint. “This is the eighth time I’ve come — why am I still not being allowed to meet the PTI founder?” he asked, also demanding to know who was in charge inside the prison.
