Islamabad, October 22,2024- Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Khan has stated that the political committee has decided to boycott the parliamentary committee on the appointment of the Chief Justice because they consider the entire process of constitutional amendments to be illegal.

Speaking to the media outside the Election Commission office in Islamabad, Barrister Gohar said that PTI has held better intra-party elections compared to all other political parties. He mentioned that the Supreme Court’s decision on reserved seats also recognized PTI’s intra-party elections.

He added that today was the hearing of PTI’s intra-party case at the Election Commission. “We have already responded to the Election Commission’s legal questions and the Lahore High Court has stopped the Election Commission from passing a final order. We had filed a petition in the Lahore High Court, arguing that this is not under the Election Commission’s jurisdiction, and we hope this matter will soon be resolved.”

Gohar further stated, “We have complied with all the requests made by the Election Commission, submitted answers to the legal questions they raised, and provided all the documents they asked for. The Supreme Court’s decision also stated that these are our MNAs, and we were entitled to reserved seats.”

Regarding the boycott of the parliamentary committee, Barrister Gohar said, “We consider the entire process of constitutional amendments to be illegal, which is why we have decided to boycott the parliamentary committee. The political committee has unanimously concluded that everything that happened is illegal. We also made it clear on the assembly floor that we did not agree to anything.”

He also mentioned that the suggestion of establishing constitutional benches at the provincial level never came up in the special committee, and the idea of provincial constitutional benches emerged suddenly.
