Islamabad, October 22, 2024—Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stated that the 26th Constitutional Amendment Bill, passed by parliament with a two-thirds majority, will serve as a milestone for the country’s political and economic stability and public welfare. In a federal cabinet meeting, he emphasized that this new legislation would ease the suffering of common citizens who have faced undue delays in seeking justice.

The Prime Minister noted that the amendment, achieved through extensive consultation among the ruling coalition and opposition parties, aligns with the vision of the Charter of Democracy signed by Shaheed Benazir Bhutto and Mian Nawaz Sharif in 2006. He highlighted the tireless efforts that led to this successful legislation, reflecting a genuine spirit of consultation.

He expressed gratitude to the leaders of supportive political parties, including President Asif Ali Zardari, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari of the PPP, JUI-F’s Maulana Fazlur Rehman, and representatives from the Muttahida Qaumi Movement, National Party, Awami National Party, Balochistan Awami Party, and independent candidates for their votes.

Additionally, the Prime Minister congratulated the successful holding of the 23rd meeting of the SCO in Islamabad, noting that it enhanced Pakistan’s image. He praised the summit’s success despite challenges posed by terrorism and security issues, commending the efforts of the foreign affairs, information and broadcasting, and interior ministries, along with law enforcement agencies, the police, Pakistan Rangers, the Pakistan Army, and intelligence agencies.

He also acknowledged the Capital Development Authority for beautifully decorating the federal capital for the occasion, mentioning that the Prime Ministers of China and Russia specifically praised Islamabad’s beauty.
