Islamabad, October 22, 2024 – Alisher Tukhtaev, Uzbekistan’s Ambassador to Pakistan, has emphasized that the Uzbek language serves as a historical foundation for the cultural and trade connections between Pakistan and Uzbekistan, which remain relevant in contemporary times.

“The Uzbek language continues to thrive, and efforts are underway to create favorable conditions for its learning, even abroad, including here in Pakistan,” the Ambassador stated. He noted that there are over 4,000 cognates between the Uzbek and Urdu languages, which enhance mutual understanding between our brotherly nations.

Speaking at the ceremony commemorating Uzbekistan’s National Language Day at the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Islamabad, Mr. Tukhtaev highlighted that dictionaries are being published and various modern IT programs are being developed to promote the language.

He pointed out that on October 21, 1989, Uzbekistan adopted the Law on the State Language, granting the Uzbek language official status—an event of great significance for the nation’s culture and identity. “Language is an inseparable part of our national spirit, traditions, and self-awareness,” he remarked.

The Ambassador also noted the establishment of the Uzbek Language Learning Center in 2005 at the National University of Modern Languages in Islamabad.
