Sydney, December 10, 2025: The jersey number of Pakistan’s star batter Babar Azam has taken an interesting twist as Sydney Sixers unveiled a unique “056” design for him ahead of the 15th edition of the Big Bash League (BBL).
The franchise announced the development through its official social media platforms, sharing visuals of Babar Azam at the Sydney Cricket Ground. Known globally for wearing the iconic number 56, Babar will sport a slightly modified version, 056, during the upcoming season.
According to the Sixers, the creative adjustment was introduced to distinguish between two high-profile players in the squad who prefer the same number, as Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc will continue wearing the traditional 56. The franchise described the move as a lighthearted and stylish solution to avoid confusion while celebrating both players.
The announcement came as Babar arrived in Sydney, with his participation expected to be among the most closely followed international appearances of BBL 15. The Pakistan skipper’s inclusion has already generated significant excitement among fans and cricket analysts.
BBL 15 is scheduled to run from December 14, 2025, to January 25, 2026, featuring 44 matches primarily staged during prime-time evening slots. Organisers believe the revised format, coupled with the presence of international stars, will significantly enhance global viewership.
Pakistan will have a strong presence across multiple franchises this season. Alongside Babar Azam and Shaheen Shah Afridi, prominent players including Mohammad Rizwan, Haris Rauf, Shadab Khan, Hasan Ali and Hassan Khan will also feature in the tournament, adding further flair and competitiveness.
Their participation is expected to boost fan engagement, given their current form and massive following worldwide.
Meanwhile, the Big Bash League has confirmed that the 2025–26 finals will retain the traditional four-match structure, with the Qualifier scheduled for January 20 and the Grand Final set to take place on January 25, 2026.
