Karachi, December 10, 2025: Pakistan Army continued their dominant run at the 35th National Games on Wednesday, crossing the landmark of 100 gold medals after securing top honours in multiple disciplines, including athletics, swimming and team sports.
At the end of an action-packed day, Pakistan Army firmly held the top position on the medal table with an impressive tally of 113 gold, 50 silver and 34 bronze medals. Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) followed in second place with 46 gold medals, while Pakistan Navy occupied third position with 24 golds.
The day began with the men’s marathon over a distance of 42.195 kilometres, where Pakistan Navy’s Shahbaz Masih clinched gold by completing the race — which started from the Quaid-e-Azam monument and passed through various city routes — in 2 hours and 25 minutes. WAPDA’s Sher Khan claimed silver, while Pakistan Navy’s Shoaib Akhtar finished third.
WAPDA’s Faiqa Riaz continued her remarkable form at the Games by winning the women’s long jump with a leap of 5.52 metres, completing a hat-trick of gold medals after earlier victories in the 100m and 200m events.
Pakistan Army further strengthened their dominance in athletics as Usman Ali claimed gold in the men’s 200m, Mohammad Akhtar triumphed in the 10,000m, and Ismail secured first place in the 400m.
WAPDA, however, enjoyed success in several women’s track and field events, with Uzma Awan winning the hammer throw, Iram Shehzadi prevailing in the 1500m, and Ghazala Ramzan taking gold in the 100m hurdles.
In swimming, Pakistan Army’s Ahmed Durrani completed a double hat-trick by adding three more gold medals in the 800m freestyle, 200m freestyle and 200m relay, taking his total gold tally at the Games to six. WAPDA’s Hamza Asif set a new national record in the men’s 50m breaststroke, while Jehanara Nabi continued her strong performances in women’s swimming and Hareem added another gold for Sindh.
Pakistan Army also dominated rowing, collecting five gold and one silver medal, while Pakistan Navy secured two golds and five silvers in the discipline.
In women’s weightlifting, medals were shared between departments, with Pakistan Army’s Khadija Waheed (69kg) and Sonia Azmat (77kg) winning gold, alongside WAPDA’s Nazia Aslam (86-plus kg) and Nadia Maqsood (86kg).
Shooting events saw Pakistan Navy add four more gold medals to their tally, while Pakistan Army claimed two. In karate, Pakistan Army maintained supremacy in both men’s and women’s categories.
The Army’s dominance extended to team sports as well, as they defeated WAPDA to win gold in women’s football and women’s softball, remaining unbeaten in the single-league football format.
Meanwhile, squash competitions entered the decisive stage, with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Mahnoor Ali and Pakistan Army’s Zainab advancing to the women’s final, while WAPDA’s Noor Zaman and Pakistan Army’s Huzaifa Ibrahim booked their places in the men’s singles title clash.
