Islamabad, December 11, 2025: Political leaders from the ruling coalition have reacted strongly to the conviction of former Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) chief Lt Gen (retd) Faiz Hamid, who was handed a 14-year rigorous imprisonment sentence by a Field General Court Martial (FGCM).
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Hamid was tried under the Pakistan Army Act on four charges: engaging in political activities, violating the Official Secrets Act, acting in a manner detrimental to the safety and interests of the state, and misusing authority and government resources—causing wrongful loss to individuals. The former spy chief was found guilty on all counts, and the sentence was promulgated on December 11, 2025.
‘Pakistan will Reap the harvest of past decisions’: Khawaja Asif
Defence Minister Khawaja Asif said the country continues to bear the consequences of decisions taken under the leadership of former army chief Gen (retd) Qamar Javed Bajwa and Faiz Hamid.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Asif wrote:
“The country will keep reaping the harvest of seeds sown by Faiz Hamid and General [retd] Bajwa for years.”
He prayed for guidance for those in positions of authority, adding:
“May God forgive us. May those in power recognise that authority is a divine trust and use it for the welfare of His creation. May the fear of God guide the rulers. Ameen.”
‘No one Is bigger than Pakistan’: Faisal Vawda
Speaking to the media, Senator Faisal Vawda said the conviction was “just the beginning,” predicting that cases related to the May 9 riots would also advance soon.
“If a former senior army officer can be tried in the May 9 cases, you can imagine the fate of the real perpetrators involved in the violence,” he said.
Vawda added that the verdict had laid the foundation for a stronger system of accountability and justice in the country, stressing that “no one is bigger than Pakistan.”
He accused the former ISI chief of causing significant damage to national institutions, politics, and the judiciary through the misuse of his authority.
‘Historic and landmark decision’: Atta Tarar
Federal Information Minister Atta Tarar described the FGCM verdict as a “historic” and “landmark” step that strengthens Pakistan’s legal and accountability structures.
Speaking to media, Tarar said red lines had been crossed and political interference had occurred during Hamid’s tenure. He accused the former DG ISI of acting as a political adviser to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and providing it with “full political support.”
“This decision reinforces the rule of law and the country’s accountability mechanisms,” the minister said.
Tarar also insisted that the trial was fair and transparent, noting that Hamid was given “full opportunity to defend himself,” including presenting evidence and witnesses in his favour.
The information minister further revealed that investigations into Hamid’s alleged involvement in political engineering and related matters were still underway and would continue.
