PCB may reconsider Shan Masood’s appointment as Consultant for International Cricket

Karachi, December 15, 2025: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is reportedly reconsidering its offer to men’s Test captain Shan Masood for the role of Consultant International Cricket and Players’ Affairs, sources told a private sports channel on Monday.

Masood, 36, was given a verbal offer in October, which was later confirmed by the PCB through a social media post and a brief press release—both of which have since been deleted. Insiders indicated that the batter’s busy Test schedule has made it challenging for him to juggle both roles, prompting the PCB to review the appointment.

The move follows the PCB’s earlier advertisement for the Director of International Cricket Operations position, which became vacant after Usman Wahla resigned. While the cricket board did not explicitly define Masood’s responsibilities, the advertised role includes planning and organising international cricket events, preparing and finalising MOUs for home and overseas tours of Pakistan’s national, Shaheens, U-19, U-16, and emerging teams, preparing for ICC meetings, developing logistics and tournament budgets and overseeing negotiations, contract execution, and itinerary planning for FTP tours across all formats.

Shan Masood has played 44 Tests, 9 ODIs, and 19 T20Is since his debut against South Africa in 2013. He has captained Pakistan in 14 matches, winning four and losing ten, with his most recent stint as Test captain ending in a 1-1 series draw against South Africa.

The PCB’s final decision on the appointment is awaited, with cricket fans keen to see whether Masood will take on the dual responsibilities or focus solely on his playing career.
