Lahore, December 30, 2025: An election tribunal on Tuesday dismissed a petition filed by senior Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Dr Yasmin Rashid challenging Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Nawaz Sharif’s victory from Lahore’s NA-130 constituency in the 2024 general elections.

Dr Rashid, who is currently incarcerated, had filed the petition in April last year through her counsel Ahmed Awais and Rana Mudassar. In her plea, she contended that the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) had issued the notification of Nawaz Sharif’s victory in violation of electoral laws and alleged that the election results were manipulated in favour of the PML-N supremo.

After hearing arguments from both sides, Election Tribunal Judge Justice (retd) Rana Zahid Mahmood upheld the ECP’s notification and declared Nawaz Sharif’s victory from NA-130 Lahore valid.

According to official results, Nawaz Sharif secured 171,024 votes to win the seat, while Dr Yasmin Rashid, who contested the election as an independent candidate, obtained 115,043 votes.

The verdict comes amid PTI’s broader claims that its mandate was stolen in the February 8, 2024, general elections. The party has alleged widespread manipulation of results, particularly through changes in Form 47, which provides provisional consolidated results of a constituency compiled by the returning officer.

PTI leaders have repeatedly maintained that the party actually won around 180 National Assembly seats, citing data from Form 45s — the presiding officer’s results of the count at individual polling stations. Form 45 records the number of votes cast at each polling station and the votes secured by each candidate, while Form 47 consolidates these figures at the constituency level, excluding postal ballots.

The tribunal’s decision is seen as a significant legal setback for PTI’s challenge to high-profile election results in Lahore.
