Islamabad, January 12, 2026: A meeting of the Sub-Committee of the Senate Standing Committee on Communications was held on Monday at the Parliament House, Islamabad, under the chairmanship of Convener Senator Kamil Ali Agha. Senators Zamir Hussain Ghumro and Saifullah Abro also attended the meeting.

The sub-committee expressed grave concern over the continued absence of the Chief Executive Officer of the National Highway Authority (NHA) and the Secretary, Ministry of Communications, despite assurances given in the previous meeting that they would attend. Members termed the repeated non-attendance as unjustified and unacceptable.

Taking serious notice of the Secretary’s continuous absence, the sub-committee observed that such conduct amounts to a breach of privilege of the committee and the Senate, noting that standing committees function as an extension of Parliament. Consequently, the sub-committee decided to write a letter to the Prime Minister of Pakistan through the Chairman Senate, highlighting the misconduct and breach of privilege by the Secretary, Ministry of Communications.

The sub-committee further directed that the pending matter be finalized in its next meeting, scheduled to be held on January 19, 2026.
