Indonesia, Pakistan hold bilateral talks to strengthen economic ties

Islamabad, January 19, 2026: The Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia, Chandra W. Sukotjo, and Pakistan’s Minister of Trade, Jam Kamal Khan, held a bilateral meeting in Islamabad to build on the momentum generated by the State Visit of the President of Indonesia to Pakistan in December 2025 and the recent visit of Indonesian Deputy Minister of Commerce to Karachi in January 2026.

The meeting highlighted the strong and growing economic relationship between the two countries, with discussions focusing on expanding cooperation in strategic sectors such as agriculture, industry, mining, and investment. Both sides also explored ways to optimize existing cooperation frameworks, including the D-8 platform, to generate tangible trade and investment opportunities.

Indonesia and Pakistan reaffirmed their joint commitment to deepening bilateral trade ties, particularly by accelerating the evolution of the existing Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA) into a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA). This step is aimed at fostering a more dynamic, resilient, and future-oriented economic partnership between the two allied nations.
