Lahore, October 27,2024- Mohammad Rizwan has been appointed as the new captain of Pakistan’s white-ball cricket teams, succeeding Babar Azam, who stepped down to focus on his performance and personal time. PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi announced that Rizwan’s first assignment will be a series against Australia starting on November 4, with Salman Ali Agha appointed as vice-captain. Agha will captain the T20I side against Zimbabwe as part of Rizwan’s workload management.

Rizwan, 32, debuted in 2015 and has since played 74 ODIs and 102 T20Is, amassing over 5,000 runs and 143 dismissals. The decision to appoint Rizwan and Agha was made in close consultation with the selection committee and mentors, receiving nearly unanimous support.

Chairman Naqvi acknowledged Babar Azam’s contributions, describing him as a valuable asset to the team. He expressed hope for Babar’s return to form following a recent performance dip. The ODI and T20I squads for the upcoming Australia and Zimbabwe series were also announced, with Rizwan leading in Australia and Agha captaining in Zimbabwe.
