Islamabad, January 20, 2026: The Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) expressed deep grief over the recent tragic incident at Gul Plaza, Karachi, which claimed lives and caused massive financial losses, destroying traders’ properties worth billions of rupees.

ICCI President Sardar Tahir Mehmood, along with Senior Vice President Tahir Ayub and Vice President Irfan Chaudhry, extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured. They described the tragedy as deeply distressing and said it revealed serious shortcomings in safety measures.

President ICCI strongly demanded the formation of a high-level committee, including representatives from the government and business community, to conduct a transparent, merit-based, and time-bound inquiry into the incident. He called for strict accountability for those responsible, stressing that such measures are essential to prevent future tragedies.

He also urged the Sindh government to immediately restore and strengthen rescue and emergency management systems to ensure timely response in similar incidents. In addition, President Mehmood called for special tax relief and financial concessions for affected traders to help them recover from the heavy losses.

Senior Vice President Tahir Ayub and Vice President Irfan Chaudhry supported the President’s stance, emphasizing that prompt and adequate compensation for the families of the deceased and affected traders must be treated as a priority.
