Islamabad, January 20, 2026: Speaker of the National Assembly, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, met with Mr. Zhao Leji, Chairman of China’s National People’s Congress (NPC), in Beijing, during a parliamentary delegation visit. Members of the Pakistani delegation, including Ms. Romina Khurshid Alam, Mr. Muhammad Nauman, Ms. Zeeshan Jaffer, and Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri, were present.
Speaker Sadiq highlighted Pakistan’s pride in its longstanding and time-tested friendship with China, emphasizing that the bilateral relationship is founded on mutual respect and confidence. He underlined the unbreakable bond between the peoples of the two countries and stressed the importance of enhancing parliamentary cooperation, including stronger exchanges and activation of Parliamentary Friendship Groups, to further deepen bilateral relations and reinforce the strategic partnership.
Referring to the 75-year history of Pakistan–China parliamentary and diplomatic ties, Sadiq described the relationship as a model for the international community. He also hailed the China–Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) as a transformative initiative with far-reaching benefits for Pakistan and the wider region.
The Speaker praised China’s remarkable development under President Xi Jinping and termed the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) a visionary project critical for regional development and shared prosperity. He extended an invitation to Chairman Zhao Leji to visit Pakistan, expressing gratitude for the warm reception and hospitality extended to the Pakistani delegation.
Chairman Zhao Leji welcomed the Speaker’s remarks and reaffirmed China’s commitment to its longstanding friendly relations with Pakistan. He expressed agreement with proposals to enhance inter-parliamentary exchanges and commended Pakistan’s role in promoting peace and stability in the region. Zhao reiterated China’s dedication to further deepening the strategic partnership between the two countries.
