Islamabad, January 28, 2026: The 10th meeting of the Standing Committee on Water Resources was held today at the Parliament House under the chairmanship of Mr. Ahmad Atteeq Anwer, MNA. The session took place at 2:00 p.m. in Committee Room No.7, 4th Floor, with the Chairman welcoming all participants before proceeding as per the agenda.

During the meeting, a representative of the Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) briefed the Committee on the K-IV Phase-I project, which aims to deliver 260 million gallons per day (MGD) of water to Karachi. The construction work is reportedly at an advanced stage, with completion targeted for December 2026. However, the Committee noted that timely completion depends on the availability and release of required funds.

The Committee directed the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) to provide a detailed briefing on its specific responsibilities and the progress of works under its scope in the next session.

Additionally, the Committee requested the Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SPARCO) to share all available satellite imagery of the Delta region dating back to 1976. This data will help assess the extent of land loss caused by sea erosion over the decades.

Recalling recommendations from its previous meeting, the Committee also urged provincial Irrigation Departments to submit a comprehensive record of land under their control for the past ten years, including land leased to farmers, land used for housing societies, and areas under illegal occupation. The Secretaries of the Irrigation Departments assured the Committee that the report would be submitted within fifteen days.

The meeting was attended by MNAs Muhammad Idrees, Mr. Riaz Ul Haq, Mr. Mian Khan Bugti (via Zoom), Ms. Shamaila Rana, Ms. Shazia Marri, Ms. Saba Talpur, and Syed Waseem Hussain, along with officials from the Ministry of Water Resources.
