Florida now proudly adds another jewel to its crown: Central Broward Regional Park & Broward County Stadium (Lauderhill, near Fort Lauderdale and Miami)—America’s first ICC-certified international cricket venue. In 2024, this stadium hosted four matches of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, marking the United States’ historic debut as co-host of the tournament. Matches included Sri Lanka vs Nepal, USA vs Ireland, India vs Canada, and Pakistan vs Ireland—where global cricket stars lit up the field and Florida wrote a new chapter in American sports history.
With a capacity of up to 25,000, state-of-the-art floodlights, and a multi-purpose field, the stadium has been a cricket hub since 2007. It hosted New Zealand vs Sri Lanka’s first international T20 series in 2010, the USA’s first ODI series and victory in 2019, and now Major League Cricket matches, signaling cricket’s growing popularity across the nation.
Florida is the third most populous U.S. state, with an estimated 23.46 million residents as of July 2025 (U.S. Census Vintage 2025). If it were an independent country, its Gross State Product would rank among the world’s top economies—approximately $1.76 trillion in 2025.
The economy is diverse and dynamic:
- Tourism remains the biggest driver—$133.6 billion economic impact in 2024, $134.9 billion in visitor spending, supporting ~1.8 million jobs, $79.9 billion in wages, and $33.6 billion in tax revenue. In 2025, visitation continues to grow modestly, with 109.78 million visitors in the first nine months (up 0.1% from 2024) and a record 34.4 million in Q2 alone. Annual projection: 140–145 million visitors.

A brief history: Juan Ponce de León’s Spanish arrival in 1513, St. Augustine founded in 1565, Native American roots (Seminole, Miccosukee), Spanish, British, and American periods, Seminole Wars, Civil War, the 20th-century land boom, Disney’s arrival in 1971, and today’s revolutions in space, tourism, technology—and now cricket.
Education thrives at institutions like the University of Florida, Florida State University, University of Miami, and University of Central Florida, leading in research and innovation.
Diversity is Florida’s heartbeat: Hispanic/Latino ~27%, White ~52%, Black ~16%, Asian 3%+, and a vibrant Pakistani-American community estimated at 20,000–25,000 (concentrated in Miami, Orlando, Tampa, Jacksonville)—active in halal restaurants, mosques, Eid celebrations, retail, tech, healthcare, and hospitality businesses.
Sports passion runs deep: Miami Dolphins and Tampa Bay Buccaneers (NFL), Miami Heat (NBA), Tampa Bay Lightning (NHL), Miami Marlins and Tampa Bay Rays (MLB)—and now international cricket has arrived on the grand stage.
