Rauf Atta of the Asma Jahangir Group wins SCBA presidential election

Islamabad, October 29, 2024 – The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) elections concluded with Rauf Atta, representing the Asma Jahangir Group (AJG), winning the presidential seat by a close margin.

Atta secured victory with 350 votes, narrowly defeating Munir Kakar of the Hamid Khan Group (HKG), who received 331 votes. Of the 769 registered voters, 682 Supreme Court lawyers participated, reflecting a strong turnout for the association’s annual elections.

In Lahore, Atta won with 558 votes, surpassing his Hamid Khan Group rival, who garnered 484 votes. Preliminary results from Multan showed Atta leading with 125 votes against Kakar’s 85, achieving a 40-vote lead.

In Islamabad, 682 out of 769 registered lawyers voted, with Atta leading Kakar by 190 to 160 votes. His influence also extended into Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where he won by narrow margins across various cities.

In Peshawar, Atta achieved victory with 127 votes to Kakar’s 123. In Bannu, he secured 21 votes against Kakar’s 10, and in Dera Ismail Khan, he led with 25 votes over Kakar’s 11. Other key wins included victories in Abbottabad by 7 votes, Bannu by 11, Dera Ismail Khan by 14, Swat by 8, and Peshawar by 4. In Hyderabad, he gained 50 votes, outpacing Kakar, who received 34.
