Moscow, February 27, 2026: Russia has expressed concern over the sharp escalation of armed clashes between Afghanistan and Pakistan, calling on both sides to exercise restraint and resolve their differences through dialogue.

In a commentary issued on Friday, Maria Zakharova, Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia, said Moscow was alarmed by the involvement of regular army units, aircraft, and heavy weapons in the clashes.

She noted that the escalation had resulted in casualties and injuries on both sides, including among civilians, raising serious humanitarian concerns.

Calling Afghanistan and Pakistan “friendly countries,” Zakharova urged both governments to refrain from further dangerous confrontation and to return to the negotiating table. She emphasized the need to address outstanding issues through political and diplomatic means in the interest of regional peace and stability.
